Continuing Education in Real Estate
Every two years, agents have to complete 14 credits/hours of class work. This is due on May 31st of even numbered years. (2020, 2022, 2024, etc). Depending on when you get licensed during the renewal period, you will have to take particular classes. If you are not sure when you were licensed, you can check here. That site also tells you when your license expires.
Step 1: Complete Classes
First Renewal
If this is your first time taking CE classes, you need to take TWO seven hour classes for a total of 14 hours. The mandatory topic is covered in these classes. You are ONLY taking these classes.
1) New Agent General Module (THIS IS MANDATORY)
2) Pick between New Agent Residential Module OR New Agent Commercial Module
You can take CE classes online at a number of different sites (examples are Mckissock or Real Estate Educators) or in person. RAMP and Real Estate Educators update their in-person class list as they schedule them. Link to classes: RAMP and to Real Estate Educators. You need to looks for classes that state "NEW AGENT" in them, as the rest will not count toward your CE credits.
Save your completion certificates in case you get audited!
Second Renewal and Beyond
If this is not your first renewal, you can pick from a variety of classes offered. They have classes on the contracts to looking at new development projects in the area to ethics and digital marketing, so pick ones that interest you. For the 2022 renewal, you MUST take the 3.5 hour Fair Housing class as part of your 14 total hours.
Online classes are offered many places, and you can often find some deals. Just be sure they are state accredited before paying. Some examples are here and here.
You can also check out the class list on RAMP's website or Real Estate Educators for in-person classes.

Step 2: Renew Online With the State
Once you complete 14 hours of class, you just wait to receive an email from the state to say that registration renewal has been opened. This is normally done around April 1st of the renewal year, but you are encouraged to complete classes before this. Then you log into the PALS site and pay to renew your license. The instructions are in the email, but you basically log in with the info you set up when you APPLIED for your license. It's not broker affiliated. You then "renew" the license by certifying you took your CE classes. They do audit sometimes, and there are heavy penalties if you don't actually do the classes. It's roughly $96 to renew. The broker has to renew their license first, and then all the agent ones will be renewed once they complete it.
